Kurosaki Ichigo's life completely changes because he has responsibility to see ghosts. The changce begins when he and his two sisters are attacked by a Hollow. They are aided by a Shinigami named Kuchiki Rukia. But Rukia is injured and must transfer her powers to Ichigo.
